Two green groups plan to sue the Fish and Wildlife Service over its decisions to not designate the wolverine as a threatened species.
After proposing the designation for the wolverine last year, the agency decided against the protections, saying it does not consider climate change a threat to the wolverine’s survival.
{mosads}Still, the Fish and Wildlife Service admitted local impacts of climate change are uncertain.
Earthjustice and the Western Environmental Law Center filed notices of their intent to sue on Wednesday, giving federal officials 60 days to reconsider the decision, the Associated Press reports.
The groups said the government is not considering evidence that warmer temperatures will reduce the habitats available to the wolverine.
