Boehner ‘not qualified’ to debate climate change

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Thursday he’s “not qualified to debate the science over climate change” but warned against new rules on power plants President Obama is preparing to announce.

“Listen, I’m not qualified to debate the science over climate change,” Boehner said at a press conference where he criticized environmental regulations.

{mosads}“But I am astute to understand that every proposal that has come out of this administration to deal with climate change involves hurting our economy and killing American jobs. That can’t be the prescription for dealing with changes to our climate.”

It was the second time this month that the Speaker has declined to weigh in on scientific findings about human contributions to climate change. Obama is expected to announce strict new standards on Monday for coal-fired power plants that congressional Republicans are sure to try to block.
