Ad accuses Scott Brown of killing efficiency bill
A new ad is hitting Republican Senate candidate Scott Brown (N.H.) for reportedly lobbying to kill his opponent Sen. Jeanne Shaheen’s (D) energy efficiency bill in the Senate.
The ad buy, launched on Thursday by the Senate Majority PAC, is estimated to cost at least $244,000, according to the New Hamphshire Journal.
{mosads}“A rare moment in Congress. A bipartisan bill readies for passage in the Senate. Jeanne Shaheen’s energy efficiency bill to create jobs and save billions, supported by businesses across New Hampshire,” states the ad, which will run on New England Cable News and Comcast Sports.
“But news accounts report that Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown lobbied Republican leaders to kill the bill — hurting Shaheen and helping himself gain another Senate seat,” the ad says.
Brown’s campaign defended the candidate’s visit to Capitol Hill days before the Senate voted on the energy efficiency bill.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) had offered Republicans a stand-alone vote on the Keystone XL pipeline if the energy efficiency bill passed, but Brown expressed concerns that Keystone wasn’t going to be included as an amendment.
Brown, who hasn’t fared well in recent polling, also released a new ad Thursday.
In an attempt to fight claims that he “just moved to New Hampshire,” Brown went back to his childhood days.
The ad opens on a photo of Brown as a child.
“That’s me as a little kid — we lived on Islington Street in Portsmouth,” Brown states in the 30-second ad buy.
“I care about New Hampshire. But President Obama and Sen. Shaheen forced on us a healthcare system that doesn’t work,” he adds.
