Senate GOP sends second letter to Obama urging Keystone approval

Senate Republicans have sent a second letter to President Obama within the span of one month pressing him to approve the Keystone XL pipeline.

The entire Senate Republican Caucus signed the letter, which calls on Obama to approve the permit application “without further delay.”

{mosads}The State Department released its final environmental analysis on the TransCanada project late last month and currently started the national interest review of the pipeline.

After State wraps up the 90-day interagency review and a public comment period it’s up to Secretary of State John Kerry to provide his take on whether the $5.4 billion project is in the nation’s best interest.

But Republican’s say those final steps aren’t necessary given that the process has dragged on for roughly five years and multiple environmental impact analyses have been conducted.

“These resources are more likely to be developed in an environmentally friendly manner if exported to the U.S. by pipeline,” the letter states. “There is no question that Canada will develop these resources.”
