House Energy Committee to release report on natural gas exports

The House Energy and Commerce Committee plans to release a report this month focusing on natural gas exports.

It’s the latest move by Republicans in the accelerated debate on the nation’s booming new fossil-fuel abundance.

{mosads}The report will discuss the geopolitical implications of growing U.S. energy resources, and what it means for the future of energy exports. The committee has gathered information from previous hearings and a forum held in late 2013 with foreign diplomats on the benefits of U.S. liquified natural gas exports, a congressional aide told The Hill.

So far the U.S. has given the go-ahead on five applications for exporting natural gas to countries that are not designated as free-trade partners.

On Tuesday, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) will issue a white paper of her own on a similar topic, falling under the umbrella of fossil-fuel exports.

The Hill reported in early December that Murkowski was ready to zero in on crude oil exports. Her report will highlight the pros and cons of opening the country’s export policy on crude.

Murkowski will release the report during a discussion with the Brookings Institute on the future of U.S. energy security, and trade.
