Army investigating after soldier found dead at Kuwait base

An Army soldier is dead after they were found unresponsive at a military base in Kuwait, the U.S. military revealed on Thursday.

The Army is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Staff Sgt. Timothy Manchester, 34, of Austin, Texas, after they were found on Wednesday at Camp Arifjan.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased,” U.S. Army Central said in a statement.

Manchester had been supporting Operation Spartan Shield and was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 36th Infantry Division, Camp Mabry, Texas.

This is the second service member dead in Kuwait in under 10 days.

On Jan. 11, Staff Sgt. Anthony Bermudez was killed and two others were injured in a “non-combat related vehicle accident” near Camp Buehring during a routine troop movement.

More than 13,000 troops are stationed in Kuwait, which shares a border with Iraq and acts as a location for U.S. forces to deter against Iranian proxies as well as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
