U.S. Military bases are stepping up security following two shootings within the past two weeks.
U.S. Northern Command said in a statement Sunday that “random security measures” would be increased at bases across the country in response to a shooting at a Hawaii Naval base as well as one in Pensacola, Fla., committed by a member of the Saudi Air Force.
“We are saddened by the recent attacks at U.S. Navy installations. We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the fallen and wounded,” Northern Command tweeted.
“Our CDR directed DoD installations, facilities & units in NORTHCOM’s area of responsibility to immediately assess force protection measures and implement increased random security measures for their facilities. See something. Say something,” the account continued.
Three people were killed and several others were injured in Friday’s shooting in Pensacola, while a U.S. sailor killed himself and two civilian employees while wounding a third in a separate incident Wednesday at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu.
Saudi officials are cooperating with U.S. officials on the investigation into the Florida shooting, which is currently being treated as an act of terror by investigators.
