Trump scheduled for Macron meeting, no other one-on-ones with world leaders while in Paris

President Trump’s only planned bilateral meeting with a world leader while in Paris this weekend will be with French President Emmanuel Macron, senior administration officials said Tuesday.

Trump is traveling to Paris to commemorate Armistice Day. Nov. 11 marks 100 years since the end of World War I.

Trump and the Kremlin have been contradicting each other as to whether he and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet while in Paris.

{mosads}On Wednesday, the Kremlin said Putin would speak briefly with Trump during a lunch Sunday, saying plans for more substantive discussions were curtailed at France’s request to avoid distracting from the Armistice Day commemorations.

On a background call with reporters Tuesday, a senior Trump administration official said the lunch will be “widely gathered” with other world leaders and that “there’s nothing that’s right now planned or expected to be planned for pull asides or exchanges.”

At a press conference earlier Wednesday, Trump noted that both he and Putin would be at the lunch, but likewise said “we don’t have anything scheduled.”

Trump’s agenda in Paris will start Saturday with the bilateral meeting with Macron, a senior official said on the call.

There is no set topic for the discussion, but the official said he would expect Syria, Iran and European security to come up. Asked if Trump or Macron are expected to raise trade issues, the official that is a topic that “frequently comes up” in Trump’s meetings with world leaders.

Trump will then visit the Belleau Wood battlefield and an American cemetery. He will also conduct a meet and greet at the American embassy in Paris, and his day will end with a dinner hosted by Macron for visiting heads of state.

On Sunday, Trump will attend the Armistice Day ceremony at Paris’ Arc de Triomphe. That will be followed by the lunch a the Élysée Palace.

Trump will then participate in a Veteran’s Day ceremony at an American cemetery in France, before returning to the United States.
