Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Sunday said North Korea’s latest nuclear test is “unacceptable.”
“It’s clear that this behavior is completely unacceptable,” Mnuchin said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“We’ve already started with sanctions against North Korea, but I am going to draft a sanctions package to send to the president for his strong consideration.”
{mosads}Mnuchin said North Korea needs to be cut off economically.
“People need to cut off North Korea economically, this is unacceptable behavior,” he said.
Mnuchin reiterated that if other countries want to do business with the U.S., they “obviously will be working with our allies and others to cut off North Korea economically.”
North Korea said Sunday it successfully tested a miniaturized hydrogen bomb capable of fitting on an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
State television said the test ordered by leader Kim Jong Un was a “perfect success” and a “meaningful” step forward in its weapons program.
