House panel denies cuts to Army network
The Pentagon submitted the large reprogramming request to
Congress in order to help deal with shortfalls in its operations and maintenance
accounts due to automatic sequestration cuts.
{mosads}The reprogramming must be approved by the four defense
committees: House and Senate Armed Services and Appropriations.
In a letter to Pentagon Comptroller Robert Hale obtained by
The Hill, House Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) and ranking
member Adam Smith (D-Wash.) wrote that the WIN-T program provides enhanced
communications and was “essential to the Army’s top modernization program.”
Lawmakers with a stake in the General Dynamics WIN-T
program lobbied against the reprogramming cut, including
Massachusetts Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D) and Mo Cowan (D).
The Armed Services Committee’s reprogramming denial was first reported by
Politico.
