Army releases names of Ft. Hood victims

The Army on Friday released the names of the three soldiers killed by Army Spc. Ivan Lopez during a shooting spree Wednesday at Fort Hood, Texas, before Lopez, 34, turned the gun on himself.

They are Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Michael Ferguson, 39, from Mulberry, Fla.;  Staff Sgt. Carlos Alberto Lazaney Rodriguez, 38, from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico; and Sgt. Timothy Wayne Owens, 37, from Effingham, Illinois.

Ferguson was serving as a transportation management coordinator with the 49th Transportation Center, Movement Control Battalion at Fort Hood.

He entered the active Army as a private in July 1993, and was promoted October 2004. He had served four deployments, the most recent in Afghanistan from June 2012 to March 2013. Before that, he served in Iraq from September 2009 to May 2010, and two prior deployments  in Kuwait.

He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal, as well as various other service awards.

Rodriguez served as a unit supply specialist with the 21st Combat Support Hospital, 1st Medical Brigade at Fort Hood.

He first joined the Army in January 1994, and was promoted May 2006. Rodriguez deployed twice to Iraq, July 2009 through July 2010, and again from April 2007 to April 2008.

He also deployed to Kuwait from December 1998 to April 1999. He received a number of service medals, including four Army Commendation Medals.

Owens served as a motor transport operator with 13th Sustainment Command at Fort Hood, the same unit that the gunman Lopez served in.

He enlisted in June 2004, and was promoted March 2007. He served in Kuwait from January to December 2010, and in Iraq from January to December 2005.

He was awarded three Army Commendation Medals, among other awards.

16 others were wounded during the shooting.
