Marine commandant cleared of favoritism charge

Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos was cleared by the Defense Department inspector general on allegations that he showed favoritism toward a Maine during the investigation of last year’s urination video.

{mosads}The Wall Street Journal reports that Amos was cleared of wrongdoing, as the inspector general found his conduct “was reasonable under the circumstances,” according to an unpublished document viewed by the Journal.

Amos was accused of displaying favoritism toward then-Maj. James B. Conway, the son of former Marine Commandant Gen. James T. Conway.

The younger Conway was an officer in the unit investigated for the video where four Marines urinated on a dead Taliban fighter.
