Listen: Congress averts government shutdown, and today’s latest news

The Senate approved a stopgap spending bill late Thursday, preventing a government shutdown just before Christmas and marking the end of its first year under President Trump.

But lawmakers are likely to return to a set of difficult challenges in January. The bill postponed until 2018 decisions about the budget, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and health care, setting up for another fight ahead of Jan. 19.
