Feehery: It’s for the children

We have a saying at the local parochial school where I send my daughter. “It’s for the children.” This becomes a very popular phrase during the annual auction, when parents urge other parents to bid on things that they don’t need to help pay for things that the school actually does need.

Later this summer, the House of Representatives will vote to increase the debt limit, probably by a few trillion dollars. Congress must authorize, through legislation, the ability of the Treasury Department to borrow more money so that it can pay all the bills that it has accrued over our national history.

By taking this vote, Democrats won’t be saying “it’s for the children,” because it is most certainly not something that most kids these days know or care about. But the next generation is going to be stuck with the bill and it is not going to be pretty.

Increasing the debt burden on our nation’s children is just one way that progressive Democrats have turned their backs on the littlest among us.

Look at the mask mandates. Kids aren’t really vectors for transmission and have almost no chance of getting really sick from the virus.

That hasn’t stopped the progressives from refusing to relent when it comes to mask-wearing, both inside the classroom and outside at kids’ sporting events. We don’t know the full psychological and physical impact that flows from mass mask-wearing in children, because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in its infinite wisdom, would rather not expose itself to any more criticism and hasn’t looked into the consequences too deeply. But we do know that it has stunted emotional and intellectual development and it should be stopped immediately.

Widespread mask-wearing is starting to diminish, especially in red states, but in blue states, they still make kids wear masks. And we still don’t know what will happen this fall when it comes to reopening schools. Perhaps the most devastating implications from our COVID-19 response came with school closures, which is directly correlated with mask-wearing. The fact is that schools stayed virtual in areas with higher mask compliance. Mask-wearing was a form of government control and the more the populace complied, the less chance that a school would be open. In most big cities and blue states, virtual learning was more the norm than the exception and we know now that kids who went to school through the computer and not in person suffered from a variety of psychological and physical maladies.

Never forget than once COVID-19 started the first thing the progressives did was shut down the playgrounds. That is a perfect symbol for who the left believes should be punished for the collective sins of capitalist America.

And in case you have missed that message, the left has created a curriculum, to learn either in school or at home, that puts everything about America on trial. Kids are now taught, at an early age, to not love their country or its history. They are taught that everybody needs to be ashamed for the actions of their forefathers. Actually, don’t use the word father anymore.

And while we are at it, we can’t call them mothers either. New Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra wants everybody to be more precise. They are not mothers. They are birthing people.

This is the kind of nonsense that has become all too common in today’s Democratic Party. Close the playgrounds. Make kids wear masks, everywhere, all the time. Eliminate Mother’s Day in favor Birthing People’s Day. Teach critical race theory virtually so maybe your racist parents can learn something, too. And while we are at it, spend trillions of dollars of money we don’t have for more government that we don’t need.

Hey, it’s for the children.
