Webb: GOP must play prevent defense
Life is more than politics and I wish we could get to the “more” part. The reality is that Washington, D.C., especially for the next few weeks, will be all politics.
The politicians, influencers, experts and others all with vested interests before the Democrats take over are circling the U.S. Capitol. Who isn’t represented? The voters. The way our republic works has played out in the midterms. My issue is that approximately 49 percent of eligible voters showed up. We as a country let the minority determine the majority. Enough so-called expert analysis has been done.
Side note, not every politician is an expert, although many portray themselves that way.

Democrats have taken the House of Representatives from the Republicans and to their discredit, many Republicans tried to downplay the importance of this loss, but that’s politics. The American people now must deal with the reality of Republicans losing to the Democrats in the November midterms.
The resistance started by Hillary Clinton after her loss to Donald Trump can now act, not just complain. For you Latin scholars… acta, non verba. Action, not words. Hang on, it will be a bumpy ride.
And for Republicans, si vis pacem, para bellum. If you seek peace, prepare for war. In modern times, President Reagan said peace through strength.
Payback after the power grab is already underway. Democrats will defund, stall and deconstruct the successes of the past two years in the hopes of selling Republican failures to their base in 2020. The American people will profit from political success and pay the price for political failure.
So, what does this mean for you with the change in leadership in the House of Representatives? Washington, D.C., is about to engage in a dangerous fight for power. Face it, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will be Speaker of the House. The Democrats have a political compass and Republicans tend to have a moral compass.
Key questions
Prevent defense — How will Republicans prevent the Democrats from deconstructing the successes of the past two years? Does House leadership have a plan? I’m skeptical.
What programs are most at risk? Answer: Any and all, especially those that have begun to make a difference in the lives of Americans on the lower rungs of the economic ladder.
Real leadership is needed. Under outgoing Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), many shut out House conservatives. Now in the minority, will the Republican caucuses really work together more than fight with each other?
This has bothered me my entire life and we’re about to see it on political steroids. The constant separation of Americans by ethnicity and gender or some other distinction. My rule is and has always been simple. There is only one race, human, and procreation is proof.
No matter what box anyone attempts to place you in, let me repeat, there is only one race, human, and procreation is proof.
Booker T. Washington said, “there is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the negro race before the public. Some of these people do not want the negro to lose his grievances because they do not want to lose their jobs. There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don’t want the patient to get well.”
Today they are called Democrats.
To the race grievance industry, our skin is an organ, it does not think, it does not formulate ideas, it is merely the genetic result of our parents. Our ability to use our brain and reason in a free society such as in America is why we have overturned the blight and the negative aftermath of racism that began with colonial slavery. America is a land of opportunity as promised in our Declaration of Independence and preserved legally in our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We have amended our Constitution and we have evolved as a nation.
This is my view. For the reader, what’s yours? Is this now pure politics and if so, isn’t there an inherent danger to our culture? Is this twisted view of America by many on the left ever going to self-correct? I doubt it.
Republicans better learn fast how to play prevent defense and fight better.
