Rep.-elect Beth Van Duyne, who won a competitive race to fill Texas’s 24th Congressional District seat, is a native of Irving, Texas, and was most recently a regional administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) during the Trump administration.
She is a single mother to two daughters both of whom, she said, inspired her run for public office. Van Duyne has pointed to lowering health care costs, curbing illegal immigration and increasing economic growth in her community as key issues for her campaign.
She graduated with a bachelor’s in government and law from Cornell University. Before serving in HUD, she was mayor of her hometown from 2011 to 2017.
