Nancy Mace (R) is a state representative based in the Lowcountry, where she is known as a fiscally conservative and pro-conservation lawmaker. She was first elected to the South Carolina state House in 2017. She worked on President Trump’s 2016 campaign and was endorsed by him after winning the Republican primary in June.
Mace was the first woman to graduate from The Citadel’s Corps of Cadets. She is a single mother of two and worked as a corporate technology consultant and in commercial real estate. She also wrote a book, “In the Company of Men: A Woman at The Citadel,” detailing her time at the institution.
She defeated one-term Democratic Rep. Joe Cunningham to represent South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District. Cunningham flipped the seat from red to blue in 2018. Mace ran on restoring the Lowcountry’s economy, health and infrastructure, securing the border, and on a pro-life platform. She also supports the military, standing with Israel and is against offshore drilling.
Mace’s first piece of legislation as a state lawmaker was an anti-offshore drilling measure.
