First-time candidate Lisa McClain will be representing Michigan’s 10th Congressional District in Congress.

McClain, a senior vice president at financial company Hantz Group, takes over the conservative-leaning district comprising the counties that make up Michigan’s “thumb.”

A self-described “conservative outsider,” McClain comes to Washington without much name recognition but a clear show of success in business, having reached the role of senior vice president of the Michigan-based Hantz Group, a roughly 700-employee financial services company.

She said she had mulled a political run in the past but finally decided to make the leap after her daughter suggested the move while the family was discussing politics at dinner.

McClain made her background in business and economics the centerpiece of her campaign and said her success record as a business leader is “what Congress needs.”

In her run, she advocated for ending the Affordable Care Act and sending Medicaid to the state level, loosening business regulations, a smaller government, banning abortions, shoring up borders and a nationwide voter identification system administered by states.

McClain beat Democrat and web director Kimberly Bizon to take the seat left open by Rep. Paul Mitchell (R), who did not seek reelection in 2020 after two terms.
