Carolyn Bourdeaux won her seat in a district — Georgia’s 7th — that was heavily targeted by Democrats as part of their “red to blue” program. 

She previously ran against Rep. Rob Woodall (R) in 2018 and lost by a mere 433 votes. It was the first time Woodall won a general election by such a small margin. The election was also considered the closest House race of that year. Woodall announced last year that he would not be seeking reelection.

Before joining Congress, Bourdeaux was a professor at Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Public Policy for 17 years. During her tenure, she took a leave of absence to serve as the director of Georgia’s Senate Budget and Evaluation Office from 2007 to 2010.

Her top priorities during her campaign were expanding access to health care and investing in education.
