WSJ publishes letter from Trump continuing to allege voter fraud in PA

The Wall Street Journal published a letter to the editor from former President Trump on Tuesday in which he responded to an opinion piece by the paper’s editorial board on an upcoming court election in Pennsylvania.

Trump’s letter, dated Oct. 25, was sent to Journal editor Matt Murray and accuses the publication of printing falsehoods about mail-in ballots used during Pennsylvania’s 2020 presidential election.

The former president lost the state to President Biden in November.

The Journal’s op-ed piece makes the case for Judge Kevin Brobson, a GOP nominee running for Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court. He currently sits on an appeals bench, a step below the state’s high court.

The opinion piece states that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court needs “an injection of judicial restraint” after it carved out an exception due to COVID-19 to accept ballots for the 2020 election that arrived three days late.

The board goes on to state that these votes were segregated from the final tally and that they did not matter because the president won the state by more than 80,000 votes. However, the piece argues, if the race had been closer, the state’s presidential election could have been determined by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The former president in his letter argued that the election was “rigged,” a common refrain from Trump, who has also repeatedly alleged that the 2020 election was tainted by widespread voter fraud.

“Well actually, the election was rigged, which you, unfortunately, still haven’t figured out,” Trump wrote.

The former president went on to provide a bulleted list of points alleging foul play in the election.

Trump concluded, “This is why Democrats and the Fake News Media do not want a full forensic audit in Pennsylvania. In reality, 80,555 ballots are nothing when there is this much corruption or voter irregularities.”

Following the 2020 election results, the former president and his allies mounted multiple challenges in swing states that turned blue. The vast majority of the lawsuits were unsuccessful.

In addition, state and federal elections employees, including former Attorney General William Barr, have stated that there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud.

The Wall Street Journal has not stated why it decided to publish Trump’s letter to its editor.
