The 5,000th episode of “The View” garnered over 3 million views, the show’s most-watched episode in over 6 months, Deadline reported.
The Nov. 7 episode brought in 3.021 million viewers, the highest number since April, when former Vice President Joe Biden (D) announced his White House bid on the show, according to Fox News.
The November episode became contentious as guests Donald Trump Jr., President Trump’s son, and Kimberly Guilfoyle, a senior adviser for Trump’s 2020 campaign and Trump Jr.’s girlfriend, battled with the show’s liberal and conservative-leaning hosts.
{mosads}Co-host Meghan McCain told Trump Jr., “You and your family have hurt a lot of people and put a lot of people through a lot of pain,” including Khizr Khan and his wife Ghazala Khan, Gold Star parents who have spoken out against President Trump and who Trump has repeatedly attacked.
“Does all of this make you feel good?” McCain asked.
“I don’t think any of that makes me feel good, but I do think that we got into this because we wanted to do what’s right for America,” Trump Jr. said.
“I understand that he’s controversial,” he said later in the interview. “I understand that he’s offended a lot of people, but I also understand he took on the establishment, and that’s the premier sin in American politics these days to do that.”
Trump Jr. also feuded with co-host Joy Behar as she criticized the president. He accused her of wearing blackface, which Behar immediately denied and co-host Whoopi Goldberg also denied.
“[President Trump] called some Mexicans rapists, he attacked the handicapped, he bragged about it,” she said. “We heard the ‘Access’ tape, where he bragged about grabbing women by their genitalia.”
“We’ve all done things that we regret. I mean, if we’re talking about bringing a discourse down, Joy, you’ve worn blackface,” Trump Jr. responded. Behar has admitted to wearing makeup that was “a little bit darker than skin” in a 2016 episode of “The View.”
