A Honduran man who had been in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody since early June died Sunday at a Houston-area hospital after he was found unresponsive in his room at a detention facility, the agency announced Monday evening.

He was immediately transferred to Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Balderramos-Torres made numerous attempts to enter the United States, according to ICE. On May 17, he encountered U.S. Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas, and was found to be “inadmissible to the U.S.” He returned to Mexico under the Migrant Protection Protocols.
Ten days later, Balderramos-Torres entered the U.S. without permission, encountered local law enforcement during a “routine traffic stop” and was transferred to ICE custody, according to ICE.
He had previously tried to enter the U.S. in 2013, when he encountered U.S. Border Patrol near Falfurrias, Texas, and was sent back to Honduras, according to ICE.
