DHS: Protesters who confronted Nielsen at restaurant ‘share her concern’ about current immigration laws
A Department of Homeland Security spokesman said that the protesters who confronted DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen Tuesday evening at a Washington, D.C. restaurant “share her concern” over the “current immigration laws that have created a crisis” at the southern border.
“While having a work dinner tonight, the Secretary and her staff heard from a small group of protestors who share her concern with our current immigration laws that have created a crisis on our southern border,” DHS spokesperson Tyler Q. Houlton wrote on Twitter.

The Democratic Socialists of America’s Washington, D.C. chapter confronted Nielsen while she dined at a Mexican restaurant. The protesters chanted “shame” and “end Texas concentration camps” a the Cabinet official.
Several Democratic lawmakers have called on Nielsen to resign in the face of the ongoing controversy unfolding over the administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy, which has resulted in the separations of migrant children from their families.
President Trump, however, has praised the DHS secretary.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the president praised Nielsen for her appearance at a White House press briefing one day earlier, when Nielsen took questions from reporters about the crisis at the border.
Trump also said he wants to see “heart” in an immigration proposal.
