Republican governor says infrastructure passage a win for Biden

Republican Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said on Sunday that the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill is a win for President Biden. 

During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Hogan told host Dana Bash that the infrastructure plan should’ve been passed in August, adding that Biden shouldn’t have let the bill be sidetracked by progressive House Democrats. 

“You’re a candid guy. Is this a political win for him?” Bash asked Hogan. 

“I think it is,” Hogan replied. 

“I think it could have been a much bigger win. I mean, he nearly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. It should have been an overwhelming win back in August. And I think he should not have let it get sidetracked by the progressives in the House. I think that was bad for Joe Biden,” Hogan said.

Hogan also said that “the vast majority of Americans are not for the second bill,” referring to the Democrats’ $1.7 trillion dollar social spending package.

The House on Friday passed the bipartisan infrastructure bill, sending it to the White House for Biden’s signature. Party leaders hope to vote on the larger spending package this month. 

Hogan added on CNN that “a lot of people” have been encouraging him to run for Senate, but it’s “not something that I’m really taking a serious look at.”
