GOP election official in Georgia says Trump’s false election statements ‘game of whack-a-mole’

A top Georgia election official said Sunday that President Trump’s false election statements presented a “game of whack-a-mole” for the state’s officials.

Georgia voting systems manager Gabriel Sterling told NBC News’s “Meet the Press” that the state’s officials are attempting to combat Trump’s incorrect statements, but that it is difficult given their number.

{mosads}“At this point, it’s a game of whack of mole,” he said. “We’ve been saying the president’s statements are false. They’re misinformation. They’re stoking anger and fear among his supporters and hell, I voted for him.”

Sterling said “the situation is getting much worse,” noting that doubt in the elections process extends across party lines. 

“This is going both ways and it’s undermined democracy, and we have got to get to a point where responsible people act responsibly.”

Sterling’s remarks come a day after Trump held a rally for the Republican candidates in Georgia, in which he repeatedly claimed that he won the state instead of President-elect Joe Biden and that the election was “rigged.” 

The president has criticized several Georgia Republican officials, who backed him for the presidency, for not supporting his claims. Georgia officials have conducted recounts that have not altered the election results showing Biden winning the state.
