Klobuchar ‘feeling good’ about Democrats taking control of Senate

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) is bullish about Democrats’ chances of winning a Senate majority, saying on “Fox News Sunday” that she is “feeling good” about them.

“I am feeling good about the Senate,” Klobuchar said in response to a poll cited by Fox’s Chris Wallace showing a close race between her colleague, Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.), and GOP candidate Jason Lewis.

“Smith holding onto the seat, I put at 100 percent,” Klobuchar added, noting a poll by the Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling that shows Smith 9 points ahead.

Klobuchar also expressed optimism about races in several other states that will be key to Democratic control of the Senate, including North Carolina, Arizona and Iowa. She also predicted Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden would dominate in the Midwest, pointing to President Trump’s weakness among suburban voters.

“Suburban voters in the Midwest … they don’t like the lack of civility,” she added.

Wallace also questioned Klobuchar on Biden’s energy policies, including his opposition to new fracking permits and his call for the U.S. to transition away from use of oil. The Trump campaign has frequently falsely claimed Biden seeks to outright ban fracking.

“[Biden] has made very clear that he is not against fracking he just wants to have safety rules in place,” Klobuchar responded, adding that on the issue of the oil industry, “[w]hat he’s talking about it stopping the oil subsidies and transitioning to renewable fuels.”

The Minnesota senator went on to tie numerous examples of extreme weather and environmental events, ranging from West Coast wildfires to the inordinately long 2020 hurricane season, to an overreliance on fossil fuels.
