Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) chided President Trump in a new interview, saying he should have refrained from attacking Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) while on a trip to Normandy, France, where he took part in ceremonies to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
In an interview airing Sunday with AM 970’s “The Answer” in New York, King told host John Catsimatidis that Trump “should be above” making such politicized remarks during his visit to the country.
{mosads}“I have a different style from the president. I wouldn’t have been attacking Nancy Pelosi from Normandy,” King said.
“But, first of all, she attacked him,” the congressman added. “And he had every right to [attack back].”
“I just think that for his own sake, since his speech was so outstanding, he should’ve let it be until he got home. He should be above that,” King continued.
King’s remarks come amid an intensifying feud between the president and the Speaker.
Trump denounced Pelosi as a “disaster” in an interview at the American cemetery in Normandy over the speaker’s handling of a possible impeachment inquiry.
On Friday, Trump again lashed out at Pelosi, calling her “a disgrace” after the California Democrat privately told lawmakers she wants to see the president “in prison.” Trump called Pelosi a “nasty, vindictive, horrible person” for saying he should be jailed.
Pelosi, who was also at the Normandy celebrations, declined to push the issue further when questioned about it.
“I don’t talk about the president while I’m out of the country. That’s my principle,” she said.
