Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said Sunday that he is not sure if President Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Heather Nauert, has the “detailed knowledge of foreign policy” needed to succeed in the position.

“You know, I think she’s been at the State Department now for almost two years, she’s traveled extensively,” he said CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“I most certainly think she has the ability to do the job well, which is to be America’s advocate in this international forum.”

{mosads}”I don’t know her well,” he added. “I don’t know much about her work and I know she’s been the spokesperson at the State Department.”

He added that he’s not sure if Nauert has the “detailed knowledge of foreign policy to a level that will allow her to be successful at the United Nations.”

“I don’t know,” he said. “I need to meet with her. She needs to go through our committee and answer questions and then I’ll be able to make a judgment on it.”

Democrats have argued that Nauert, a former Fox News anchor, is inexperienced.

“I would have difficulty because there are those of us that care about people’s experience and qualifications,” Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) said Friday.

Nauert, whom Trump nominated Friday, has worked as the spokeswoman for the State Department for two years, but has no other government experience.
