Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) said Sunday that he will decide if he will run for president in 2020 by the end of the year.

“Well, first and foremost I’m having important conversations at home, but I’m mostly focused in the next 16 days at making sure we have a Congress,” Garcetti said on CNN’s “State of the Union” when Jake Tapper asked the mayor how he will decide whether or not to run.

“But I’ll make a decision probably in the next couple months, and I do hope whether I do or not that mayors do look at this,” he said, adding that mayors “get things done.”{mosads}

“We deal with public safety issues. We have to create jobs, fix education. And I think that voice is really important,” Garcetti said.

Garcetti has been reaching out to donors as Democrats begin shifting into position for the 2020 primaries.

He also visited Iowa, an early primary state, in March this year.

A few other Democratic mayors are considering presidential runs.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, and the mayor of South Bend, Ind., Pete Buttigieg have all indicated an interest in running.
