Sunday shows preview: White House officials talk Syria strike
The Sunday talk shows will be dominated by President Trump’s decision to authorize military strikes in Syria this weekend.
United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley will appear on CBS News’ “Face the Nation and “Fox News Sunday” to discuss tensions with Syria, Russia and Iran over the strikes.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders will join ABC’s “This Week.”
Both will likely face questions on Trump’s decision to authorize strikes without congressional approval and next steps. The administration has emphasized that the mission to cripple chemical weapons in Syria was a success, but that the U.S. is ready to maintain pressure in order to prevent future use. Retaliation by Syria or its allies over the strike may be yet to come.

Leaders in Congress will also make the rounds on Sunday, after another tumultuous week in Washington.
Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) will appear on NBC’s “Meet the Press” with Chuck Todd, where he will likely discuss his announcement this week to retire in 2019, opening a power vacuum in the GOP-held House of Representatives.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who criticized Trump over making the Syria decision without bringing it to Congress first, will also join ABC’s “This Week.”
CNN’s “State of the Union” will also feature Preet Bharara, a former U.S. attorney in New York, who is likely to weigh in on the ongoing investigation by Robert Mueller as well as the FBI’s criminal probe into Trump’s personal attorney. The FBI raided Michael Cohen’s offices this week and Bharara said the chance of Trump’s personal lawyer facing criminal charges is “high.”
