Sunday shows preview: DC caps off tumultuous week of resignations, Jerusalem move

Nearly a dozen lawmakers and Trump administration officials are set to make an appearance on the Sunday show circuit this week following a tumultuous few days in Washington.

Within a matter of days, three lawmakers announced their resignations from Congress following allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment, while President Trump upended nearly seven decades of U.S. foreign policy by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is set to appear on CNN, CBS and Fox News on Sunday where she’s sure to face questions about Trump’s Jerusalem decision and directive that the State Department begin the process of moving the U.S. embassy to the city.

Trump’s announcement on Wednesday drew swift criticism from political leaders across the world and touched off a wave of protests across the Arab and Muslim worlds. The decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital threatens to derail long sought-after peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis. 

Also on Sunday, Reps. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) and Barbara Comstock (R-Va.), who have both advocated for a congressional crackdown on sexual misconduct, are set to appear on “Fox News Sunday.”

Their appearances come after Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.), Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) and Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) announced this week that they would step down from their seats in the face of allegations of sexual misconduct.

All eyes are also going to be on Alabama in the coming days, as voters there prepare to head to the polls on Tuesday to decide between Republican Roy Moore and Democrat Doug Jones in the state’s special Senate election.

Alabama has long been considered a safe state for GOP candidates. But allegations that Moore pursued teenage girls when he was in his 30s have tightened his lead over Jones. Dean Young, a strategist for Moore’s campaign, is set to go on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday to talk about the race.

ABC’s “This Week” — Young will be on the show.

NBC’s “Meet the Press” — Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.) are both set to make appearances. Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) will also be on.

CBS’ “Face the Nation” — Haley will appear, along with Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).

CNN’s “State of the Union” — Haley is on. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) will also appear on the show.

“Fox News Sunday” — Haley, Comstock and Dingell will all make appearances.
