McMaster: Travel ban is ‘a first step’
National security adviser H.R. McMaster said Sunday that President Trump’s travel ban is “a first step” toward better screening of individuals entering the United States.
“Well if you can’t screen people effectively to know who’s coming into your country, then you shouldn’t allow people from that country to travel,” McMaster told ABC’s “This Week.”
“So what the travel ban is is a first step, a first step in better screening, a first step in better sharing of information.”
{mosads}McMaster’s comments come after the Supreme Court last week agreed to lift restrictions on the ban. The temporary stay issued by the highest court allows the Trump administration to continue banning most refugees from entering the United States.
“Well, as I’ve said, what he’s meaning to communicate is that we look at these organizations everyday,” the McMaster said on Sunday. We try to map these organizations everyday.”
When asked if the administration is eyeing a new travel ban, he said officials would be looking at how to better protect Americans.
“This is something we’re looking at, is how to protect the American people better. How to ensure that we know who these people are who are moving,” he said.
