House Intelligence chairman calls for plan to defeat ISIS

The head of the House Intelligence Committee is calling on President Obama to map out a long-term plan to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Following a raid in Iraq last week in which a U.S. serviceman was killed, CBS “Face the Nation” host John Dickerson asked Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) about his understanding of what the U.S. is up to in Iraq.

“We continue to have the same policy that’s not working,” Nunes replied. “There’s just no long-term strategy in place to defeat ISIS.”

Nunes said the family of Master Sergeant Joshua Wheeler, who was killed in the raid, should know that the actions he took leading up to his death were heroic.

“It was the Kurds, our longest and strongest ally in the region, that requested our assistance to go in and stop 70 people from being massacred and so the secretary of Defense has said he’s going to do more of this and I believe we should do more of this.”

Nunes said there needs to be a strategy, laid out by the president, that tells the troops exactly how we’re going to defeat ISIS.
