Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will travel to Los Angeles on Tuesday to review security operations ahead of Super Bowl LVI this weekend.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement released on Monday that Mayorkas will meet with local law enforcement officials and the NFL’s security team during the trip.
Mayorkas will also meet with DHS employees and key stakeholders to discuss continued partnership efforts at the event.
Federal officials regularly coordinate security for the Super Bowl, with the DHS leading the security team for the event.
The U.S. Secret Service said last week that there were no known, specific threats to the city of LA or upcoming game, NBC Los Angeles reported.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) emphasized last week that fans attending the big game will need to abide by a local mask mandate despite controversy over the mayor and other state officials flouting rules during the NFC Championship Game.
Garcetti, along with California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and San Francisco Mayor London Breed (D), were seen maskless at the game in photos with NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson circulated online.
Super Bowl LVI is scheduled for Feb. 13 between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals and will be played at LA’s SoFi Stadium.
