Ford recalling 200K cars due to issue with brake lights

Ford Motors Co. has recalled about 200,000 cars due to issues with vehicles’ brake lights, The Associated Press reported

The automaker’s latest recall covers several 2014 and 2015 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ midsize models and some 2015 Mustang convertibles, as well.

High temperatures and humidity can cause the rubber brakes to disintegrate in vehicles, which keeps the lights on, confusing other motorists and increasing the risk of a crash, according to the AP.

Motorists with automatic transmissions installed in their vehicle can also shift out of “park” gear without having their foot on the brake, the AP noted.

Company dealers will replace the brake and clutch pedal bumpers, and vehicle owners will be noted about the changes through mail starting March 3.

All of the recalled vehicles were sold or registered in 10 states, the AP reported.
