Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) on Wednesday announced that she and her husband had tested positive for COVID-19, joining the list of lawmakers recently contracting the virus amid the omicron surge.
“As I mentioned in my weekly video, my husband Bob tested positive for COVID Friday. Yesterday I was having a bit of fever and feeling ill,” she wrote on Twitter Wednesday evening. “After several negative tests in the days before, I tested positive for COVID last night. We are both vaccinated and received the booster.”
“I’m feeling ok, and quarantining with my husband and our dogs,” she added.
The congresswoman said she and her husband got tested when they felt something was “off” and urged the public to do the same before holiday gatherings.
“Get tested if you feel sick or have been around someone who tests positive,” she said.
Schakowsky ended her Twitter thread by pushing everyone to get vaccinated and wear masks.
“Together, we can stop the spread by wearing masks, getting vaccinated and getting tested,” she said.
Schakowsky’s announcement comes as other members of the House and Senate have announced positive tests amid a surge across the U.S.
New York Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis tested positive this week. Other lawmakers who have announced contracting the virus this week include Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Cory Booker (N.J.) and Rep. Barbara Lee (Calif.).
