The Alabama sheriff investigating the FedEx dump last week said the driver dropped hundreds of packages in the ravine six different times.
Police are investigating the FedEx driver in a theft of property case that spans 450 victims, Blount County Sheriff Mark Moon wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday.
“This will not be an easy or fast case to close,” he wrote. “Again I am asking for patience from our citizens as our investigators work through this case.”
Moon’s post was shared more than 2,000 times as of Tuesday evening.
The packages of various sizes were discovered in a ravine near Hayden, about 30 miles north of Birmingham.
Alabama residents shared photos of the package dump on Twitter, showing the brown boxes scattered across the ravine hidden in the woods.
Deputies with the sheriff’s office guarded the packages before FedEx picked them up for delivery on Nov. 25.
