Sheriff investigating after hundreds of FedEx packages found in Alabama woods

An Alabama sheriff’s office is investigating how hundreds of FedEx packages ended up in a ravine in the woods.

“I currently have a deputy on a location where it appears 300-400 boxes of assorted sizes have been thrown off a ravine,” the Blount County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said in a statement on Wednesday. “An area manager from FedEx is en route to the scene. Hopefully we will have some answers soon.”

Blount County Sheriff Mark Moon told CBS News that deputies were sent to the scene to guard the area before FedEx workers arrive to pick up the missing packages, saying the delivery company had sent multiple drivers and trucks.

“FedEx is on the scene, let the work begin,” the BCSO said on its Facebook page.

The department also shared photos of various packages scattered throughout the forest.

The packages were found near Hayden, which is about 30 miles north of Birmingham, according to CBS News.

In a statement to CBS, FedEx said, “the security of our customers’ shipments is a top priority,” adding treating customers’ packages “with the utmost care” is a top company commitment.

“We are taking steps to recover and transport the affected packages as quickly as possible,” FedEx said. “In addition to cooperating with law enforcement, we are conducting a review of this situation and will take the appropriate action.”
