Alleged Alaska supermarket shooter charged with murder
A man who allegedly killed one person in a shooting outside an Alaskan Safeway and injured another inside the supermarket has been charged with murder, according to a police statement Monday.
Joshua Eric Butcher faces a first degree murder charge. Butcher allegedly arrived at the Safeway in Fairbanks, Alaska, on Sunday afternoon, killing a person outside the store and shooting one person in the foot inside the store, according to the Fairbanks Police Department.
The police recovered a 9mm semi-automatic handgun from the scene after Butcher fled the store.
Butcher called the police shortly after the shooting saying he was outside the police station and waiting to be arrested, according to police. They said Butcher had an empty gun holster and empty magazine holders at the time of his arrest.
Butcher was arraigned in court Monday and is currently held on a $10 million bail, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
The police have not been able to determine a motive for the shooting yet.
