Nevada marijuana dispensary along Idaho border cleared to open
A marijuana dispensary in Nevada was cleared to open Wednesday, according to the Elko Daily Free Press.
The $1.4 million dispensary is located in the Idaho border town of Jackpot.
The Elko County Commission approved a business license for Thrive Cannabis Marketplace in an unanimous vote on Wednesday, according to the news source.
The license was approved after Undersheriff Justin Ames said the business passed all background checks, similar to background checks for a person going into law enforcement.
Dave Brown, a representative for the company, said the business could be open by Monday.
Sixty percent of the workforce at the Jackpot business will be residents of the town. The company gave preference to Jackpot and Elko residents during the hiring process, according to the Free Press.
The dispensary is 45 miles from the nearest city in Idaho.
Thrive marketing director John Erminio previously told the Twin Falls Times-News the business would be open all year long, around the clock.
There will be a drive-thru option and a brick and mortar store for people to walk in to.
“We look forward to being a successful and safe business in Jackpot,” Brown said to the commissioners.
It is the first dispensary along the Idaho border, a state that has yet to make marijuana legal.
