Suspect killed, ATF agent wounded in Nashville shootout
A federal law enforcement agent was injured Tuesday in a shootout that killed a man whom authorities were trying to arrest in Tennessee.
The shooting took place in front of the Metro Nashville Police Department, WKRN reported. Corey Daniel Wellman, 40, was killed in the gunfire and an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was injured.
According to WKRN, investigators said ATF agents were attempting to bring Wellman into custody when shots were fired. Witnesses told the station that they heard as many as 40 shots.
The agent was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and was still hospitalized as of Wednesday morning.
The Metro Nashville Police Department said none of its officers were injured nor did any fire their weapons.

Police said the FBI will investigate the shooting.
