The Washington Football Team says head trainer Ryan Vermillion is on administrative leave amid a federal probe that included a search warrant for the team’s training facility, NBC News reported on Monday.

“Ryan Vermillion has been placed on administrative leave due to an ongoing criminal investigation that is unrelated to the team,” the club said in a statement to NBC on Monday.

Sources told NBC Sports that federal authorities also searched a home in the Loudoun County, Va., area, with resident saying they saw multiple Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents at their townhouse complex.

Vermillion, a graduate of the University of Miami, joined Washington last season as the club’s new head athletic trainer, according to ESPN.

He had spent 18 seasons as the head athletic trainer for the Carolina Panthers, working with now-Washington head coach Ron Rivera for nine seasons.

Vermillion also spent nine years on Hall of Fame head coach Don Shula’s staff as a head trainer and rehabilitation director, ESPN reported.

The Hill has reached out to the NFL and the Washington Football Team for more information.

The DEA declined a request for comment.
