Dallas police officer placed on leave after allegedly killing cat

A Dallas police officer was placed on administrative leave by his department after he allegedly killed a cat in distress while on duty, The Dallas Morning News reported.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) said at a news conference that its officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance just after midnight on Aug. 21.

The DPD said one of their officers spotted a distressed cat at the scene and killed it immediately, according to the news outlet. 

The report did not indicate why the cat was in distress or if the cat belonged to a person in the area. The police department also did not disclose the name of the police officer involved in the killing, but stated that law enforcement is conducting an investigation into the matter. 

The news of cat’s killing comes after the DPD placed a group of officers on administrative leave last week after a dozen were allegedly found to be involved in a pyramid scheme, the Morning News reported.

The department said their initial investigation of the pyramid scheme will lead to the arrest of one officer, according to a memo obtained by the newspaper. The 11 other officers will have their cases referred to a grand jury to determine if they should be charged, according to the paper.
