Coronavirus hospitalizations in Nevada this past week broke last summer’s record as the state deals with a surge of COVID-19 cases.

The state data showed on Tuesday there were 1,215 confirmed and suspected hospitalizations for the coronavirus.

The highest number of hospitalizations last summer occurred at the end of July with 1,165 people hospitalized due to the virus.

The number of new daily cases on Tuesday was at 908 with six new deaths from the virus.

The surge in cases is hitting states across the country as the delta variant fuels the rise of hospitalizations.

Most hospitalizations in the country have been among unvaccinated individuals as vaccinated people who contract the virus are unlikely to get seriously ill from it.

Nevada has 46 percent of its population fully vaccinated from the coronavirus as it tries to combat this new surge of cases, data from John Hopkins University shows.

Some counties in Nevada have responded to the increase in cases by mandating masks indoors for everyone, regardless of vaccination status, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Nevada has reported more than 358,000 COVID-19 cases and almost 6,000 deaths during the pandemic.
