Six people injured in Texas home explosion

Six people were injured in a Texas home explosion on Monday.

One resident from the home and five from the house next door were taken to the hospital, according to the fire-rescue department of Plano, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. Three of the patients were transported to a children’s hospital.

Atmos Energy, Oncor Electric and Plano Police Department’s bomb squad were called to the scene and power was shut off to the neighborhood after the explosion. By Monday night the power was restored to all homes besides the one that exploded and the two beside it.

“We are saddened by today’s tragedy of a house explosion in our city,” Plano Mayor John Muns said Monday, ABC News reported. “Several of our residents were injured. We are keeping them and their families close to our hearts and hoping for a swift and full recovery.”

Investigators announced Tuesday that they believe the explosion was caused by a gas leak, NBC5 reported

“Plano’s Fire Marshal states the explosion was most likely caused by a gas leak inside the house but further investigation will be necessary to determine exactly where the gas leak was located inside the home,” Plano Fire-Rescue said in a statement, according to the news outlet.

The blast was so powerful it blew out windows from houses across the street, and residents from up to a mile away felt the blast, Plano Fire-Rescue stated.
