Waitress assaulted after confronting guests for walking out on bill
Five people allegedly assaulted then abducted a New Jersey waitress after she confronted them about skipping out on their bill.
According to a local ABC News affiliate, the incident occurred on Saturday evening at Nifty Fifty’s. A 20-year-old waitress, who has not been named, had been serving a group of five when they allegedly decided to walk out on their $70 bill.
Surveillance footage of the incident shows the waitress running out to the group’s car in an attempt to secure their payment.
“They pulled her into the vehicle and assaulted her inside the vehicle,” Washington Township Police Chief Patrick Gurcsik told the news outlet. “The vehicle headed north on Route 42, made a U-turn and was heading south towards Monroe Township, and pushed her out of the vehicle.”
After being released from the car, the waitress reportedly ran back to Nifty Fifty’s and immediately called the police. She sustained multiple bruises and a possible concussion from the alleged assault and was treated at a local hospital.
“Say it ain’t so,” John Hill, an employee at Nifty Fifty’s, told the ABC News affiliate station. “As an employee, that makes me feel bad and mad at the same time.”
The five suspects involved in the incident are reportedly still at large. They were last seen driving a white Dodge Durango, ABC News reported.
Local police advised residents against confronting suspects in future situations, saying that it’s safer to copy down the vehicle’s license plate.
“Do not chase after accused suspects and confront them yourselves,” Gurcsik said.
