The man accused of shooting three people in New York City’s Times Square on Saturday has reportedly been captured in Florida after a days-long manhunt.
Multiple news sites reported that 31-year-old Farrakhan Muhammad was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Starke, Fla., located near Jacksonville. Law enforcement officials told ABC 7 that he appeared to have been staying with a girlfriend at the time of his arrest.
His capture came several days after police say he opened fire in Times Square, just a few hundred feet away from a New York City Police Department (NYPD) precinct. Three people were injured, and all survived.
ABC 7 reported that authorities believe he was aiming at his brother during the Saturday attack. It wasn’t clear exactly what charges he would face early Wednesday afternoon at the time of his capture’s announcement.
NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said this week that officers in the area responded immediately but were unable to apprehend Muhammad at the scene.
“Clearly deployment is a piece of this equation,” he said, according to ABC 7. “But again, I spoke to one of the officers. He was literally feet away, a block away. He put it over [on the radio], responded immediately. You see how many cops were in that area.”
