Wisconsin officer who shot Jacob Blake had service weapon stolen

The Kenosha police officer who shot Jacob Blake had his service weapon stolen three weeks after the shooting incident, Milwaukee’s WISN reported.

Kenosha Police Lt. Joseph Nosalik wrote in a report that officer Rusten Sheskey reported the incident to the Racine and Kenosha police departments on the same day last September.

The weapon, a Glock 17 pistol, was given to Sheskey by the police department after the Wisconsin Department of Justice investigators seized the pistol he used in the shooting of Blake, according to WISN12.

The news outlet, citing police records, reported Sheskey told investigators he left his service weapon in a locked glove box in his girlfriend’s car. An officer wrote in the report that Sheskey’s girlfriend was not sure if she locked the vehicle the night of the theft.

Nosalik wrote that Sheskey stated he kept his service weapon at a secure place in a Kenosha residence, but after being forced to move he failed to find a safe location for the weapon in his current residence.

The news outlet reported that the theft of Sheskey’s weapon did not begin until seven months after he reported the incident.
