A New Hampshire police officer has been placed on leave after he posted a TikTok video mocking police reform.
The officer, who has not been named, was allegedly in uniform and on duty in his cruiser in the video, according to a local CBS affiliate station.
“It is deeply disturbing to me,” New Hampshire’s Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski told the outlet.
In the video, the officer allegedly pretended to respond to violent calls and included the caption “How the media/liberals want the police to be.”
“Whether or not it occurred in the context of today’s scrutiny of law enforcement or it occurred five years ago, to me it makes no difference,” Bryfonski said of the video. “It’s still conduct that needs to be balanced against what the department defines as appropriate and professional.”
Bryfonski told CBS that the officer who has been temporarily removed from his role has been on the police force for three years and has removed the video from his TikTok account, but only after it had already been copied to YouTube and received several comments.
“The integrity and the trust and the confidence of the Bedford Police Department clearly is shaken here,” Bryfonski said.
The officer is currently on paid administrative leave, CBS reported. A second officer reportedly may be involved in the incident as well, but the department is currently investigating the situation and the officer remains on duty.
