Verdict reached in Chauvin trial
The jury has reached a verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is accused of murder in the death of George Floyd.
The verdict is expected to be read between 4:30 pm and 5 p.m. EDT on Tuesday.
The jury began deliberations Monday afternoon following closing arguments in the high-profile case and began again Tuesday morning.
Chauvin faces three criminal counts: Second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
He could be found guilty of all three charges, as prosecutors urge, or one or two of the charges. He also could be found not guilty on all charges, a common outcome in police misconduct cases but one that in this case would almost certainly lead to unrest across the country.
